Tim Halperin - The Last Song
“AMERICAN IDOL” STAR COMES HOME TO MAKE HIS NEXT MUSIC VIDEO
Not long after the release of the “She Runs” music video Tim Halperin became a contestant on “American Idol” where he debuted an original song on the show, “The Last Song”. He returned to Texas with a much larger audience & fan base and approached us to create a music video for “The Last Song”.
We wanted this video to have that whimsy & DIY feeling similar to the last video, but with a slightly larger budget. We built out a comprehensive plan to launch & raise funds through Kickstarter, which was a new platform at the time. We launched the campaign and one month later had hit our funding goal on Kickstarter, then a few weeks later shot the music video over 2 very long days & nights and turned around the final video not long after.
The video premiered on Kidd Kraddick’s KiddTV and was featured on sites including Pop Crush, Promo News, Techli and many others.
!! Fun fact !!: the Director of Photography on this music video, Jeffrey Waldron, went on to be DP on The Morning Show (Apple TV), A League of Their Own (Amazon), Dear White People (Netflix) and the Haunted Mansion (Disney).
KICKSTARTER
The budget for the “She Runs” music video was $500 and we knew this time around we were going to need a larger budget, or any budget at all. We created a Kickstarter to raise the $8,000 needed to make this music video happen. We created a quirky video, fun tier rewards and launched & supported the campaign — quickly raising the funds!
Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” video inspired by Tim Halperin’s “The Last Song”?!
In July 2020 my phone & inbox blew up with links to Taylor Swift’s new music video for “Cardigan” telling me I had to watch. Tim Halperin’s fans started pointing out all of the similarities between the two videos, creating gifs & side-by-sides pictures, making their own edits comparing scenes & structure, sharing across Twitter & Reddit and so the discourse began: was Taylor Swift inspired by Tim Halperin’s music video? lol
It was fun to see & read about — I’m honored just to have people compare the two!
